Paul Miller, Editor in Chief
Named to the position in March 2006, Paul Miller is a 21-year veteran editor, writer and reporter in the catalog and direct marketing trades. He was an editor with the publication formerly known as Catalog Age from 1986 to 2004. After leaving Catalog Age, he became a catalog marketing consultant and freelance writer, undertaking projects for such catalogers as Woodworker’s Supply and Dover Saddlery, and the suppliers LENSER, NextAction, Mokrynskidirect and APX Logistics. During that time, he was also a contributing writer to Catalog Success and Internet Retailer. Between 2005 and 2006, he served as news/Web site editor for Commercial Property News. Denny Hatch, Contributing Editor
Denny Hatch is the only editor of a direct marketing publication with 30 years’ experience in direct marketing. Formerly the editor-in-chief of Target Marketing, where he now writes the Famous Last Words column, Hatch’s background also includes stints as a book club director for Macmillan and Meredith, three and a half years as a copywriter for The Weintz Company and a freelance copywriter and designer for 16 years. In 1984, Hatch launched Who’s Mailing What!, the monthly newsletter and archive service. In December 1992, Who’s Mailing What! was acquired by NAPCO and was relaunched in the summer of 1998 as Inside Direct Mail. |

Hallie Mummert is editor in chief of Target Marketing magazine and the newsletter Inside Direct Mail, a monthly publication that provides research and analysis on proven techniques and new trends that shape U.S. direct mail campaigns. In her position, she oversees the editorial direction and content of both publications, as well as Target Marketing’s weekly e-mail newsletter, the Idea Factory. A graduate of Temple University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, Mummert has covered the direct marketing industry for more than a decade, specializing in direct mail, production, postal issues and alternate media. |

Greg Berglund
Greg Berglund is president of Mrs. Fields Gifts, a cataloger of deluxe baked goods headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. Previously, he was senior vice president and general manager of Disney Direct Marketing, responsible for the day-to-day operations of The Disney Catalog and all online direct marketing businesses of The Walt Disney Co. worldwide. Prior to joining Disney, Berglund was vice president of marketing for Frontgate catalog where he was responsible for marketing, circulation, e-commerce, decision support systems and new business development. He began his career in the direct marketing industry in 1991 when he co-founded Vintage Directions. VDI publishes the Ambrosia Catalog, which specializes in aged Napa and Sonoma Valley Cabernet. Today Ambrosia remains one of the wine industry’s premier direct marketing players and distributors. Berglund received his MBA from Harvard Business School and completed his undergraduate studies at Wesleyan University. |

George Hague
George Hague is senior marketing strategist with J. Schmid & Assoc, the Shawnee Mission, Kan., catalog consulting and creative agency. He has more than 10 years of experience in circulation, advertising, consulting and financial strategy in the catalog industry. Hague’s expertise includes circulation strategy, mailing execution, response analysis and financial planning. Before joining J. Schmid & Assoc., Hague worked as catalog marketing director at Dynamic Resource Group, Berne, Ind. There he handled the marketing and merchandising for the Annie’s Attic Needlecraft catalog, the Clotilde Sewing Notions catalog, the House of White Birches Quilter’s catalog and three book clubs. He also worked on corporate acquisitions. He also was the publisher and editor of Final Frontier: the Magazine of Space Exploration. He headed up marketing and merchandising for Final Frontier’s Space Collectibles Catalog. Douglas J. Hershey, Executive Vice President,New Pig Corporation Douglas J. Hershey, New Pig Executive Vice President, is currently managing New Pig Direct, the company’s largest business unit. This unit is responsible for growing the industrial products catalog division in the U.S. He also serves on New Pig’s board of directors. A member of New Pig’s management since its founding in 1985, Doug was named Executive VP in 1989. He oversees, customer service, catalog marketing, product development/merchandising, telesales, database marketing, and new market development. New Pig’s growth has been dramatic - the current award-winning Pigalog(R) catalog features more than 3,200 products. Under his leadership, the American Catalog Awards has recognized the Pigalog(R) catalog many times, including six gold awards in the Industrial Supplies category. In addition, New Pig’s innovative products have won 11 Plant Engineering Product-of-the-Year awards. Doug earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Pennsylvania State University. Phil Minix
Phil Minix is president of B-to-B catalog distributor MCM Electronics. Before that, he was president of Astral Direct, a multibrand specialty catalog retailer encompassing Linda Anderson, The Music Stand and Characters brands. He previously served as senior vice president of catalog and tours marketing for Reiman Media Group, and was responsible for the Country Store catalog and the World Wide Country Tours businesses. Minix has spent the last 12 years of his career in the direct marketing and catalog/internet space. In addition to his operating roles, he’s been active writing and speaking for various industry associations and events. He started his career in management information systems with Hallmark Cards, and within a few years transitioned into his first merchandise role as buyer of the Keepsake ornaments. After seven years with Hallmark, he left for his first direct marketing position as director of marketing for The Franklin Mint. He then went on to The Vermont Country Store. After being in the Northeast for five years, Minix moved back to the Midwest and accepted a position as executive vice president and general manager of the catalog consultancy J. Schmid & Associates. |

Miguel Penella Miguel Penella, CEO, Acorn Media Group. Miguel oversees operations and directs the worldwide expansion of the company’s Acorn and Acacia brand home video products. Miguel joined Acorn in 2004 as president of Acorn Direct, the company’s consumer catalog division. A native of Valencia, Spain, he previously worked in catalog management for Time-Life, the National Direct Marketing Corp. and the National Wildlife Federation. |

Charlie Silver
Charlie Silver, vice president, marketing, Bloomingdale’s by Mail Charlie Silver has had over 25 years of experience in the direct marketing industry. He is currently Vice President of Marketing for Bloomingdale’s Direct His experience includes seven years at J. Crew where, as Vice President of Marketing, he grew the business from $4 million to over $250 million. He developed an innovative college marketing program, which grew that market from 3% to over 30% of J. Crews business. Silver also spent four years at Disney Direct where, as General Manager, he grew the Disney catalog from a $10 million money-losing catalog to a $100 million business with operating income of over 15%. Charlie is a past Chairman of the DMA Catalog Council Operating Committee and currently serves as one of its members. He is also on the board of directors at The Eastwood Catalog Group and is on the editorial board of Advisors of catalog success magazine. He has been a frequent speaker at DMA conferences for many years. |
